Free People will gladly accept unworn, unwashed or defective merchandise for return or exchange. Please allow 2-3 weeks for your return to be received and processed. We’ll send an email when your return has been processed. We will credit your original form of payment for returns mailed within 30 days of the shipping date and issue a Free People gift card if mailed after 30 days.
Shipping charges waived on Even Exchanges! Ordered the wrong size or color? No worries! If you need to exchange an item for the same item in different size or color, we will waive the Smart Label Fee and the new shipping cost for domestic orders. In a hurry? Call us at 800-309-1500 to place your reorder and we’ll remove the shipping charge on your replacement order.
Uneven Exchanges: If you would like to exchange merchandise for a different item, return label and new shipping fees will apply
Most returns are processed within ten days of receipt in our warehouse. We will send you an email confirming that your return or exchange has been processed. You may also check the status of your return by logging into your account and viewing your order history.
Your refund will be credited back to the original method of payment used to make the purchase or a gift card will be issued. If you paid with a gift card, a new gift card will be issued for the amount of the credit and mailed to you. Please note: if you paid with PayPal and want credit back to your account, you must return your merchandise to our warehouse for a refund. Free People stores will only be able to issue a Merchandise Credit Card for returns with a PayPal payment method.
Returning Merchandise Back to Top
Follow the directions on the back of the packing slip to return merchandise for credit or exchange. Pack all items in a secure carton or reuse the original packaging and enclose the packing slip.
Your packing slip will include a pre-paid, pre-addressed return label. No postage is required.
The cost of return shipping will be deducted from your refund – $5.95 per package.
Drop your package in a mailbox, give it to your postal carrier, or take it to any authorized USPS facility.
Your SmartLabel is trackable. Please email or call customer service to check the status of your return package.
SmartLabel can be used for all US addresses including APO/FPO addresses and US Territories.
Smartlabel cannot be used outside of the US or on oversized items.

Furniture Returns Back to Top
Furniture may be returned for a refund or exchange within 30 days of delivery. It must be returned in like-new condition with original packaging and materials. Customers are responsible for any return shipping costs. After 30 days, we will replace or refund your purchase for manufacturer defect only.

Swim & Intimates Returns Back to Top
We are unable to process returns for swimwear or intimate apparel items that have been worn or are returned in a soiled condition. All lingerie must be returned in original packaging and condition with tags in place. All swimwear returned must be in new and unused condition with sanitary strips in place.
Gift Returns Back to Top
If you received a gift from our catalog or website, you may return it to our distribution center. A gift card will be issued for the amount of the item(s) and mailed to you. We are unable to process returns for items purchased at a store location.
The original order number is required to process the return. Please contact us to obtain this information. Please have the gift givers full name and address information handy. We will provide you with a gift return form to enclose with your package

Most catalog and website merchandise can be returned or exchanged at any Free People store location within 30 days from the shipment date. Returned merchandise must be unworn, unwashed, with tags attached and in the original product packaging. All returns must be accompanied by the original packing list. Please note: Our stores are unable to process refunds for website orders with a PayPal payment method. A Merchandise Credit Card will be issued for these items.
Some select items are Mail Return Only and cannot be returned to our stores. Mail Return Only status is indicated online in the product detail page, in your shopping cart and on the packing list that is enclosed with your order. To return these items to our warehouse, please follow the return instructions listed above. Please contact us with any questions.

We cannot accept items purchased at Free People stores at our website Returns Center. Please return your items to the store where you purchased them, or to the store closest to your home. If this is not convenient, please mail your return, via certified mail, to the store closest to you. Click here to locate a store.
Free People merchandise purchased at independent boutiques and department stores must be returned to that store. Please contact the individual store for their return policy.

Free People stores will gladly accept returns of items in their original condition with Free People store price tickets attached accompanied with the original store sales receipt. Items must not to be worn, altered or washed. Original method of payment will be refunded for all returns accompanied by a Free People store receipt within 30 days of purchase. Store credit will be issued for all returns accompanied by a store receipt after 30 days of purchase.
Returns with a gift receipt will be exchanged or refunded for the value indicated on the gift receipt. Refunds will be made in the form of store credit. A one-time price adjustment will be granted when an original store sales receipt is presented within 14 days or purchase. Merchandise credit will be issued for returns of beauty and personal care items accompanied by a store receipt within 30 days of purchase. Gift cards cannot be returned or exchanged.
